The hotels put what they want to sell, including pictures, room types, etc., on the Orbitz website themselves. They also control their own inventory. EXACTLY what you selected at the time of purchase was sent to the hotel, and the hotel also can go into the same program they themselves used to offer the room, to see how many people they are expecting for any given day, as well as the type of room they booked, ammenities, preferences such as smoking or non-smoking, etc. The person with the hotel that posts the room offered also designates who gets the confirmation email from Orbitz. Even though they can at any time go in and see who is coming, when, and what they booked, they also get an email or fax, depending on how the hotel listed in the program, how they get the reservation from Orbitz. The person the hotel designated to receive the reservation and watch the program, may have failed to tell the front desk what you actually reserved. It wasn't Orbitz that messed up your reservation. The hotel knew you were coming, they had direct access and control of what you saw and booked online, as well as their own inventory. If you were standing in the hotel lobby, screaming (you said you were infuriated), the clerk probably wanted to get you out of her face, and blamed Orbitz.
