Quoted $1440 USD. Charged $2308 USD.

Last night, I booked a return flight from London to Sydney using Orbitz. The fare seemed to be about $50 cheaper than booking it through Malaysia Airlines.

The total I was quoted was $1440,60 USD.

However, this morning I had a call from my bank’s Fraud Prevention team. They were concerned about a £1459 withdrawal made by Orbitz.com ($2308.57 USD)- about $870 USD more than I was quoted)

This has left me with an empty bank account and I am absolutely mortified. Orbitz claim that they have only withdrawn $1440,60, but I have the bank statement to prove that they have abused my debit card details and made me the victim of online fraud.

To anyone who reads this, European or American, I urge you to never book a flight through Orbitz.com.

Also, if anyone can provide any help or guidance in this, it would be much appreciated.

Orbitz does suck! I booked a car and hotel at Orbitz in Anchorage. The hotel they sent us to was called Pinewood Inn Extended Stay.  We checked in and it was awful. The place had peeling paint on the doors, a hugh pot hole in the parking lot (that should have been my first clue of the place). The room stunk like urine and mold. The beds were about 20 years old, they had bad pillows. The stove was dirty, the bathroom really sucked. The tub was dirty, the floor was sticky. So what did I do? I called Orbitz and complained. After being on hold for 12 minutes I finally spoke with someone and told them they needed to find us a new hotel and complained about all the issues. They apologized but said they were going to charge us a 243.00 fee! I asked who was charging the fee and Orbitz told me it was the hotel. And guess what? The hotel told me it was a fee from Orbitz! I don’t who was lying but I paid for one night in a really bad hotel that I spent about 5 minutes in. I later called Orbitz to contest the fee and I was told it was pretty much not a issue to them because they have no control over the property they only book the hotels. I told them that people relied on their judgement of the property and hotels they send people to and all they did was say have a good day.  My vacation ended up cost me more than I wanted to pay because we trusted Orbitz and they sent us to a dump! By the way we heard on the news that about a block from the hotel Orbitz sent us to there was a shooting where someone was killed! I found a room on my own in a town called Eagle River outside of Anchorage. It was called Microtel and they were one of the better hotels in the area.
